This week's ODDBALL COMIC is a Christian "adventure" comic that's beautifully produced by the great Al Hartley. It's also got one of the Oddest bad guys ever seen in comics -- an unnamed general who's obviously based on real-life military maniac Idi Amin, a man with a reputation for cannibalism! (Were there ever any other Amin-esque characters in comics? I sure don't recall any.) It's also interesting that his cartoon counterpart here actually dies in the story, although his actual death is never depicted.
And then there's Al's heavy use of exclamation points!!! Was Jeremy A. Patterson his proof-reader?
So what do you think of THE BROTHERS? I'm not even Christian and I LOVE this comic! Two more issues were published and I'd sure like to read 'em.
(And please, let's not get into another squabble about religion; this site just ain't the place for it.)
Aloha,
Scott!
P.S.: Does anyone else suspect that Al may have had some help in inking this comic...from, say, Joe Sinnott? -- SS! _________________ "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." -- Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

What this comics really needed was some ducks. With it's slapstick violence and cartoony sound effects, this would have made a great Donald DUck story (and the line about eagles would have been especially funny). ALl in all, a good solid comic.
The only other Idi AMin comic appearance I can think of was a caricature that Trudeau did of him in Doonesbury as he tried to crash a human rights award ceremony |

I have a vague (and probably inaccurate) memory of an ALIEN Idi Amin; I THINK he was purple. Now I'm going to be up all night trying to figure out what I'm thinking of.
Was it in Omega Men? _________________ Bart Lidofsky |

Idi Amin actually "starred" in HER own feature in Warren's 1984 magazine. I can't remember the details of how Amin became female, but I do recall that it was a very strange (to say the least) strip. The most memorable aspect of the feature was the beautiful artwork by the great Spanish artist Esteban Maroto. |
